Born in St. Boniface, Manitoba, Gilles Roy has been living in Montréal, Québec since 1999. As an educator, a researcher in history and the humanities and a longtime musician, Gilles has forged over the years a critical apparatus that uniquely synthesizes the traditions of arts and letters, and the social sciences.

Gilles is a former educational designer at the National Film Board of Canada, and holds a bachelor’s degree in classical philology from Concordia University. He is currently a researcher in history at the Université de Montréal, specializing in economic history from the colonial period of North America. He is also a graduate of the 2012-2013 Interactive Media Program of the Institut National de l’Image et du Son, and is a regular contributor on the blog Play the Past.
